The Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association proudly supports three annual wine competitions that prominently feature Texas wines – The Lone Star International Wine Competition, The GrapeFest People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic, and The Texas Non Commercial Wine Competition.
The Lone Star International Wine Competition is open to all wines produced by commercially bonded wineries in the country of origin and licensed to produce wine for sale in the U.S. All individual wine entries must be available for public purchase at the time of the competition. There is no limit to the number of entries per winery. This competition, celebrating its 30th year, will be held June 3-4, 2013 at the Grapevine Convention Center.
The GrapeFest People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic is the largest consumer judged wine competition in the United States. Many Texas wines from many of Texas’ wineries are featured during the 90 minute tasting. During GrapeFest, there are 10-12 sessions for consumers to sample and judge the wines. This competition will be held September 12-15, 2013 in Grapevine, TX.
The Texas Non Commercial Wine Competition is open to Texas winemakers only. Wines may be produced by either amateur or professional winemakers, but they cannot be commercially available (for sale). The competition is managed by Dr. Justin Scheiner at Grayson College. The competition judging will be between April 1 and April 26, 2013 with the announcement of winners and awarding of medals on April 27, 2013.
